Are you a carer?

It is Carers Rights Day this week on Thursday 20 November!

Carers Rights Day is an annual opportunity to help anyone aged 18+ who looks after a friend, neighbour, or family member access the support they are entitled to.

Many people don’t think of themselves as “carers”

Quite often, people are simply helping someone they care about. But recognising their role can unlock access to vital information, guidance, and a strong network of support.

Caring can take a serious toll

Carers experience notable health inequalities, with higher rates of chronic illness, poor mental health, and social isolation due to the physical and emotional demands of their role.

Supporting carers to understand their rights is an important step in addressing these challenges.

Can you share details with your patients or clients?

Letting people know about Islington Carers Hub and this week’s Islington Carers Rights Day event is a valuable first step in helping unpaid carers to get support.

An event poster is shared below – booking is essential.

Who might be a carer?

They may be supporting someone who is:

Living with a long-term illness or disability
Managing a mental health condition
Affected by drug or alcohol use
A network of support – not just one organisation

By connecting with Islington Carers Hub, carers can be introduced to a wide network of local services and community organisations who work together to support carers.

Carers can benefit from:

A Carers Assessment and Carers Emergency Card
Practical advice on finances, housing and health-related issues
Specialist support from local voluntary and community groups
